Healthy black forest parfait for 2!
This healthy black forest parfait is naturally sweetened and made with good for you ingredients, but rich enough to satisfy a dessert craving.
With summer in full swing and fresh cherries in season and staring at me from the fruit basket, a major craving to eat a sinful black forest cake set in! As I am currently trying to reduce eating food that is low in nutrition and high in empty calories, I could not cave in to my craving but instead, I came up with this simple yogurt parfait inspired by black forest cake!
Does it taste like a traditional Black forest cake? No, it cannot taste like black forest cake, as the ingredients used here are very different from the ingredients that go into a traditional black forest cake.
What makes this Black forest parfait special?

Ingredients to make Healthy black forest parfait
- Dates
- Nuts
- Cocoa powder
- A splash of vanilla
- Plain yogurt
- Honey or any other sweetener
- Fresh cherries or substitute with maraschino cherries for a not so healthy option ๐
- Process dates, nuts, cocoa powder, vanilla together into a coarse powder.
- Whisk yogurt and honey.
- Chop the cherries.
- Layer your parfait!

Healthy black forest parfait for 2!
Equipment
- blender/food processor
- I use standard measuring cups to create my recipes.
Ingredients
For chocolate dates layer
- 10 dates kharjoora/khajoor
- 2 tbsp almond flour optional, use extra nuts instead
- 2 tsp cocoa powder adjust depending on your taste
- 10 pecans or any nuts I used them raw. Can be roasted.
- a splash of vanilla extract
- a pinch of salt
For yogurt layer
- ยฝ-ยพ cup yogurt/dahi/mosaru that is less tart/sour
- ยฝ-1 tbsp honey or sweetener of your choice, adjust to suit your taste
Cherry layer
- 15 fresh cherries
Instructions
Prepare chocolate layer
- Blend/process dates, almond powder, cocoa powder, nuts, vanilla,salt into a coarse powder.
Prepare yogurt layer
- Whisk yogurt and honey together.
Prepare cherries
- Chop the cherries fine.
Layer
- Choose two small serving bowls of 5oz(about half cup) capacity.
- Layer the ingredients as you wish! I start with the chocolate layer, followed by yogurt and chopped cherries and repeat!

Notes
- This makes a rich dessert as it is made with dates and nuts. So I make two small sized parfaits with the measurements given above.ย
- I used raw pecans. The nuts can be roasted as well.
- If planning ahead, the yogurt can be hung to remove excess water. It is an optional step which I skip but gives more defined layers ๐ Use 3/4 cup yogurt if you are planning to drain the water from it.ย
- Using the same idea, you can prepare yogurt parfaits using different fruits and toppings.ย
